Exploring Chinese Cusine in San Francisco for Food Republic

One of my favorite assignments from the past few months has been this shoot about important Chinese Restaurants in San Francisco. 

 It lead me on a culinary tour of San Francisco's Chinese restaurants...

 from the heart of Chinatown.... (pictured Eastern Bakery)...

 to the Richmond District and its amazing Dim Sum restaurants (like Hong Kong Lounge).

I photographed popular favorites like House of Nanking....

 and its amazing selection of food...

 ...and ambiance.

But the best discovery was to see how much people enjoy food and see how it brings people together; especially at Old Mandarin in the Sunset District.  If you have a chance check out the story!

Instagraming #Caltopia2015

 Sunday was move-in day for the undergraduates at UC Berkeley and along with all the change and excitement that the day brings there was also a chance to learn more about their school, community and grab a bunch of free swag at Caltopia 2015.

 It was fun for me because besides shooting it for Cal, I also was instagraming the event and posting photos online with the hash tag #caltopia2015.

Women's World Cup Final - USA vs. Japan

Now, that was an incredible Women's World Cup Final!! (Well at least if you are a USA fan).  

I traveled to Vancouver to take in the final match of the Women's World Cup. It was a classic rematch of the 2011 finals: Japan vs. USA.  The USA was looking to avenge their penalty kick loss that year and fans of both teams mixed it up in good nature before the game.

American fans of all sizes and shapes made it to BC Place in Vancouver to watch the final...

 ...and be completely decked out to support their team.

 And before you really felt the game had started, USA scored a goal sending the fans into ecstasy.

 Then they scored another...and another...and...

 ANOTHER!  4-0 after 16 minutes.  The fans were in disbelief about what they were seeing.

But after waiting 16 years for a trophy the USA Team was ready to celebrate its victory.

And for USWNT star Abby Wambach who is expected to retire from the team, it was a chance to say goodbye to all her adoring fans.  

Golden State Warriors Fans Celebrate NBA Championship in Oakland

After 40 long years, Warriors fans were able to celebrate an NBA Championship.

As the final seconds ticked off the clock, Warriors fans were ready to celebrate their dream season.

The fans filled the streets of downtown Oakland...

and the champagne flowed freely.

One fan even climbed a street light to hang a warriors shirt over a street sign.  It was crazy.

Lots of people thought the celebrations in Oakland would turn violent...

...but they don't know Oakland.  This was a time to celebrate the first victory by a team from the Town since 1989.

It was dancing in the streets.

Kids showing off their dribbling skills...

...and fireworks being set off.

Well done Warriors and well done Oakland.

Now how about that parade on Friday??  THAT will be one heck of a party!

A trip to Barra de Potosi, Mexico

 There is nothing quite like taking a vacation in a beautiful remote location like Barra de Potosi, Mexico.

 There are crashing waves...

and remote beaches.

 In the dried out sands right before the rainy season there are the tracks of wildlife...

...sometimes saying hello to each other.

Barra de Potosi is a fishing village located about 20 miles south of Zihuatanajeo, Mexico.  The fisherman head out to sea...

 ...and also into the lagoon nearby to cast their nets.

 Its also a great place to ride a kayak as well.  If you ever get a chance make sure to visit and stay at the wonderful Hacienda La Rusa!  Tell them Doug set you :)

Women's NCAA Tournament- Cal, Texas, Western Kentucky, Wichita State

I had the honor of photographing the 1st and 2nd round NCAA Women's NCAA tournament games at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley this past weekend.  Since I hail from Connecticut, and the winner of this bracket will go on to most likely meet UConn in the round of 16, I was really excited about the games as a photographer and also as a fan of basketball. 

 In the first round Texas overcame a tough Western Kentucky team to pull the game out in the end.  

   Cal fired on all cylinders over Wichita State to set up the a 4-5 matchup between Cal and Texas on Sunday.

 The Cal Women's team was fire up coming onto the court before their second round matchup against Texas...

 ...and they hit their first 3 3-pointers to grab a lead over Texas.

 But behind their 6-7 center Imani McGee-Stafford, Texas stormed back and took a big lead in the second half.

 Cal fell behind by 12 in the second half...

 ...and the home crowd urged on the Bears.

 Their hustle got them back into the game, but they could never get over the hump.

 As the second ticked away the Cal bench looked on dejectedly.

Cal Senior Brittany Boyd had play the last game of her collegiate career.

And the visiting Texas fans received a "Longhorn Salute" from the team for their support.  And most likely a date next weekend in Albany with UConn.
